The 2019 tour

On August 27, 2019, I left San Diego and started making my way across the USA, up to Maine, then south to avoid the coldest months. The plan was to find interesting, resilient people along the way, sit down with them, and let them tell their stories and share what they’d learned.

Then early 2020 arrived and the pandemic put everything on hold.

A quick update from the road

Just some quick news for those subscribed to FTPLT updates…

I departed San Diego in late August and have steadily made my way east. I’m currently in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Lessons Learned From The Path Less Traveled Project officially kicked off about two weeks ago, when I started my first interview sessions with a family living off-grid in the backcountry of Colorado. I’ve since had another session with an aspiring author in Denver.

I’m very encouraged by the content I’ve captured so far and very enthusiastic about the future of this project. My biggest challenge right now is assembling the footage I’ve captured for both the video documentary series and the podcast while I’m still traveling and capturing more.

I’ve been posting photos to Instagram and I also started a vlog. As this is my first experience vlogging, there’s a lot of room for improvement. But as I discuss in my book, if you want to get good at something, you have to be willing to be bad at it first. So this will be a record of my effort to get better at something I’ve wanted to do for quite a while.
